What Is Lost When Flipped Face-to-Face Teaching Courses Are Converted to Online-Only Courses?

Wolfgang Fellin (University of Innsbruck, Austria)

The COVID-19 restrictions forced the author to change all his courses to online-only courses. This was quickly possible because the courses were based on the flipped teaching concept. A good learning management system, virtual meeting software, and a tool for automated exams generation allowed this from a technical point of view. However, the total loss of physical encounters in purely virtual teaching remained problematic. An online survey identifies advantages and disadvantages of virtual courses and provides possible solutions to the loss of contact and advice on how to effectively integrate virtual components into blended learning courses.
