Poster 7:
Modeling Authentic Assessment through Program Design
Alex Buckley, Martha Caddell, Rob Daley, Rosemary McIlwhan, Siti Nuralia Mohamad Nazor, Anne Tierney, James Wilson (Heriot Watt University, UK)
This poster presents the development of a new PG Certificate in Higher Education at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, aligned with Learning and Teaching Strategy. This was a unique opportunity for us to redesign the program as we are an international institution, with two overseas campuses in addition to three campus locations in Scotland. We take an evidence-based approach to curriculum design, allowing participants to experience the program as students, and then apply what they experience in their own programs as teachers. The program is modelled on scholarly practice, drawing from current literature, with reflective practice and formative feedback embedded in all courses. The program is presented as a blended model, with most interaction online, punctuated by face-to-face sessions on the disparate campus locations, which models how our staff are expected to teach across the institution.
