Poster 13:
Attendance as a Predictor for Course Academic Performance in Undergraduate Sport and Exercise Science Students
Victoria Penpraze (University of Glasgow, UK)
Attendance is commonly associated with academic performance in undergraduate (UG) sport and exercise science (SES) programmes. This study reports preliminary findings examining the relationship between attendance and academic outcomes within a UG Muscle and Biomechanics course (n=45). Teaching was delivered primarily in person but also with online components through lectures, workshops and laboratory sessions, with attendance recorded electronically. End of course test performance was analysed using correlational and regression analyses. No single teaching format showed a stronger association with performance than others. Overall, attendance across lectures, labs and workshops was moderately associated with improved academic outcomes.
